I work for a three-letter co-op, in the Footwear department (one of my peeves in when people call it the “shoe department,” so lets not call it that, mkay?). It probably doesn’t come as a surprise that I have a thing for shoes. In the last few months, I’ve sort of lost control. I think it all started when I realized I was sort of cute, and that I looked cuter in nice clothing. What’s the easiest way to jazz up an outfit? Cute Shoes!
First I bought the Dansko Lolitas. I had worn my Chaco sandles to work, and they were killing me. I tried the Lolitas on and it was like walking on a cloud. On my break, I purchased them. A short while later, one of my coworkers came in and told me there were a pair of Keen Calistogas in my size for only $14.83. After some deliberation, I bought those too.
Somewhere along the way, I wound up looking at the Dansko website, searching for some shoes I’d seen last season. I recall sitting in my closet looking at my growing collection of skirts that rarely get worn, and realizing that part of the problem was that I didn’t have the right [cute] shoes to wear with them. In the Dansko Nolita collection, I found cute platform sandals: the Naomi and the Novalee. After three weeks of trying to talk myself out of buying them (and trying to get a deal on them through work) I gave up and bought them online. They are cute and the Naomi is quite comfortable.
Anyhow, you’d think the shoe orgy was over, but nooo… My climbing shoes were pinching. And by pinching I mean it felt like I was peeling the skin off my heel when I took them off. Think removing a band aid only a hundred times worse. I’m almost convinced that the shoes shrank as a result of baking them in the car. They fit just fine in the store, as do the new pair. I used them climbing on Thursday and Sunday, and I think they’re a little big (I got a half-size larger). We’ll see.
I actually wore shoes I already owned for my wedding, they were the Stuart Weitzman Mazie. They were the first present I got from Rob.
On the Monday before the wedding, we went shopping in SF. The Nordi’s downtown has awful service. I was walking by the Steve Madden store, and ducked in for a “quick peak.” I tried on a pair of shoes and fell in love. I managed to control myself and we left without me buying more shoes… until we were at the mall in San Jose this past Saturday. Buy one at the marked down price get one half off! So now I own two more pair of shoes. I wore them out of the store, and got two compliments on them in the space of two hours.
Now I need to go out more and wear the damn things.
