first impressions

June 24, 2008

Yesterday I had the pleasure of hanging our with the lovely Miss L. We drove over to see the new house, then had a lovely lunch at a local brewery. It was very nice to catch up!

While at the apartment, she noticed that we had a copy of A&E’s production of Pride and Prejudice. Rob is a huge Jane Austen fan, and had mentioned this movie many times. When this half of the final BSG season came to an end, we needed something else to watch, so I suggested we get this movie. We also got Sense and Sensibility directed by Ang Lee, which at one point Rob said was his inspiration to read Jane Austen novels.

I’ve never been interested in reading any Jane Austen, but I did enjoy the Theatre Works production of Emma last year. Miss L mentioned that she was quite smitten with this production of Pride and Prejudice, and had seen it possibly as many times as I’ve watched Labyrinth (inconceivable! (oops, wrong movie)). On her recommendation I was finally tempted to watch the movie. At about 10:30 we started the 300 minute movie, knowing it was a four-part mini-series. I assumed I’d just watch one part. I couldn’t stop watching until it was over, after 3 am. Then I had British people and horses in my dreams.

I’m tempted to watch it again, today. Or maybe I’ll read it. I guess I could just watch Sense and Sensibility.

Trivia: Pride and Prejudice was originally titled First Impressions.
