I had thought about doing our housewarming party as a “zombie cocktail party” for Halloween. But as the weeks have gone by, I realized my heart just wasn’t in it, I just don’t feel like doing it.
Maybe it’s because the house isn’t “done.” But we own the house (or the bank does, in our name) and we get to do whatever we want to it, so it may never be “done.” We haven’t finished the window coverings, because I need to make an appointment. We haven’t hung the art, or filled the photo frames we got for our wedding. The stairs still are carpeted (we want them re-done in wood, like the rest of the floors). I have hardly touched the yard. Rob wants a new TV, which calls for some new living room furniture…
But really, a housewarming is to “warm” the house, fill it with life. So a housewarming should and will happen, but on our terms. I’ve come up with the Happy House Birthday Party. Is it a Happy-House Birthday, or a Happy House-Birthday? I haven’t decided, but it won’t be until next July.
Whew, off the hook for eight more months!
