Today we attended the grand opening of the Alviso Boat Launch Facility grand re-opening. The Alviso Marina was closed in 1983 and this is the first time in 23 years we’re able to launch boats off of a public dock in the little backwater of Alviso. From there it’s four miles through the Alviso Slough out to the bay itself. It was a nice little ceremony with many local officials, including the mayor of San Jose, which was covered by the local paper (they have a little slide show, too).
Whoa, 1987 was twenty-three years ago. I feel old.
Anyhow, Rob and I are excited about it because we’d like to get into kayaking, and now we have this beautiful park and facility practically in out backyard. Okay, it’s like 7 miles away, and the park was beautified a few years ago, but its exciting to see it all completed! We took the REI Outdoor School kayaking I and II classes and had a blast. Hopefully we’ll get to paddle around Alviso soon!
