Pirate Shirt Review

June 22, 2010

pirate shirt sidePattern Description:
A romantic pirate or possibly Renaissance unisex blouse with gathered sleeves, shoulders and back. I made it for my father for Father’s day.

Pattern Sizing: I made a men’s size large for a size large man (it’s on my dress form for photos, I’d do a medium for my size 16 self), and it fit as I expected it to. In my limited experience with Simplicity men’s patterns (mostly costumes), I find that they are pretty true-to-size.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, it did.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very easy to follow. Everything matched up and fit together perfectly.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Honestly, I like that I finished it! It went together very clearly and easily, and it looks great.

Fabric Used:
Linen-rayon blend. It was a little lighter and more closely woven than the 100% linen I had to chose from. Lighter is better, as this shirt takes up most of 2.75 yards of 58″ wide fabric, it weighs 1.5 lbs.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: none.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will definitely sew it again (Rob needs a black one), and I recommend it to others. It makes a very comfortable and attractive shirt.

Conclusion:
I really love this pattern. It’s a great costume piece that comes together quickly, fits well, and looks great.

Here’s a link to picture of it on Dad that I posted the other day.
